South Africans Studying at an American College

It's July the 4th, Independence Day in America. To celebrate I decided to help South African's who are interested in studying in America. The first step in this process is to write your SAT's which you need in order to apply to a College in the United States.

What is an SAT?

You've heard the acronym hundred's of times on American TV. Stressed-out students in sitcoms studying for their SAT's. SAT stands for Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT's). They are administered by the College Board. They are an assessment test to help colleges decide how prepared you are to study a degree.

How do I start?

The first thing you need to do is register a profile with the College Board here. Registration is free. You can register for the SAT later.

You need to register using the student name as well as the name of a parent or guardian.

Writing the tests

You can write as many times as you like however each time there is a fee. Students in South Africa have to pay a cross-border admin fee, as do all foreign students. They take only your best scores so the more times you write the better your chances of getting a good result.

The tests are made up of 4 parts with an optional essay component. The essay is not compulsory however most colleges loOnce you have registered a profile you can register to write you test at a later date. You need to book a date in advance. Sometimes there is a waiting list. In Cape Town tests are usually written at the University of Cape Town in the Neville Alexander Building. The test can also be written at the International School and at Hershel Girls High. You sign up for a venue once registered.

Test Structure
